Gestalt psychology is a school of thought that looks at the human mind and behavior as a whole. Originating in the work of Max Wertheimer, Gestalt psychology formed partially as a response to the structuralism of Wilhelm Wundt. The development of this area of psychology was influenced by a number of thinkers, including Immanuel Kant, Ernst Mach and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

                                                   Psychoanalysis

Psychoanalysis was founded by Sigmund Freud (1856-1939).  Freud believed that people could be cured by making conscious their unconscious thoughts and motivations, thus gaining “insight”

To build a house, we would need bricks. This is because a brick is a basic unit that builds up to house.

Structuralism- Focuses on the structure or the basic elements of the mind.

In 1879, Wilhelm Wundt opened the Institute for Experimental Psychology at the University of Leipzig in Germany.

Wundt aimed to record and to analyze thoughts and sensations into their constituent elements, similar to chemist analyses chemical compounds. This is done to get at the underlying structure. 

Wundt uses introspection (the person's thoughts on something) to study the conscious state of the mind.

How did I do it ?

Stimulus is given such as a ticking metronome and would reflect on the experience. The volunteer would report what the stimulus made them think and feel. The same stimulus, physical surroundings and instructions were given to each person.

Parts of the theory is developed by Edward Titchener, a student of Wundt. He brought structuralism to United States. He also used objective introspection to express emotion and sensation

What comes in mind when I say the word "Psychology"?

Things that can cross into your mind would be;

1. The Brain. The complexity of this crucial part of the brain is hard to understand.

How do I work? Why do I think like this? Can I rule the world ?
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !

For example;

Why do I think Miranda Cosgrove is far prettier than Selena Gomez but my bro, Danial (names have been changed to cover the actual identities) thinks otherwise?

Why do I prefer the "downgraded" option, Pepsi over a Coke?

2. A Psychologist or a Psychiatric. There would be a person lying down while ranting on his problems while there is a smart looking person with a book and a pen jotting down notes while nodding their heads.

It is related in a way. 

IN brief,"Psychology" is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes.

Behavior- outward or overt actions and reactions.

If someone gets in your face, do you hit them?
 Be a sailor and let loose all those "@#$%" vocabulary?

Mental process- internal, covert activity of our minds.

The voluntary behavior of an organism with the present of reinforcement.

Before conditioning:

1.       The subject (a dog) is given food (unconditioned stimulus) and it reacts to produce saliva (unconditioned response).
  

2.      The dog is then introduced to a neutral stimulus (tuning fork) and it reacts nothing.
 

During conditioning:

3.       The tuning fork is present together with the food and they make the dog to produce saliva.
 During this phase, the tuning fork has been paired with the food.

After conditioning:

4.       The tuning fork is then being present alone without the food.
 Surprisingly, it managed to make the dog to response by producing saliva, and this time the response is called conditioned response.
 The tuning fork is then recognized as a conditioned stimulus.
